My Teaching Practice Experience

I never thought I would say this, but my Teaching Practice experience has changed the way I see teaching.

Before now, I had never really wanted to be a teacher. But that is a story for another day. This is my first ever Teaching Practice, and honestly, the first time I stepped into that classroom, I was shocked by so many things—the school, the teachers, the students, and everything that came with being a teacher.

But as the days went by, I began to understand something: teachers are not just people who come into a classroom to explain what is written in a book. Teachers are strategists. They sit down, plan, think, and make decisions that can shape the educational future of children.

My Teaching Practice he has taught me that teaching goes beyond standing in front of a class. Whenever I teach, I don’t just want to pass on words or information. I want to share my thoughts, listen to my students, and give them the time and freedom to express their own ideas too.

Teaching is one of the professions that deserves far more recognition than it receives. As the saying goes, teachers are the backbone of society, this is because they help build the people who will eventually build that society. Believe me, if I were asked to debate if teaching is better than any profession, I would come prepared with enough points, examples and evidence to defend my position properly.

And let me not even get started on the stress teachers go through. Being a student teacher myself, I can say that I have experienced only a fraction of what they deal with—not to talk of preparing lessons, standing in front of a class, managing different students, answering questions, marking the notes of the students, and still having to show up the next day and do it all over again.

Now that I have had a little taste of what teaching actually involves, I can completely understand why teachers are truly one of a kind. And let me tell you, I have more respect for my teachers than I ever did before, because now I have experienced, even if only in a small way, what they have been going through all these years. After this experience, I can honestly say that I am beginning to see teaching differently. In fact, I am very sure that teaching is where I belong.

Teaching is not just a profession. It is a lifestyle, and I am more than happy to be part of it.

Teaching is really humbling. It’s true that you understand and respect teachers more when you teach. Well done, Deborah. You’re an amazing teacher in the making.
