Lonely Me, Plain Chair

It's a poem about the existence of someone or a relationship without a proof of it ever existing.

Leapt inside the room with my heart on my sleeve,

‎On that plain chair you sat, your eyes full of grief.

‎’Can you let me in?’, I asked once, twice

‎The third time could have been the charmer,

‎But you looked back at me – dead in the eyes.

‎’Mmm’, was that a consent?

‎I looked back to ask,

‎But looking at me was the absence you left behind.

‎

‎Stayed up all night, eyes fixed on the empty chair,

‎’The white stick finished burning,’ I hoped you had been there.

‎The air still carries your presence,

‎the potent smoke still lingers.

‎

‎Lonely me, plain chair,

‎It’s time to raise a cheer.

‎To the absence and grief you left behind

‎To the future and home I had in mind.

‎Should I wait?

‎Would you have asked?

‎I hope you come clear the air.

‎

‎Sat in that corner hoping you’d come,

‎I just wanna believe you’re not in my head.

‎’He’d come, he’d come’,

‎I said to myself.

‎But all that I could see was that lonely piece of wood.

‎

‎Lonely me, plain chair,

‎It’s time to toast a cheer.

‎To the absence and grief you left behind

‎To the future and home I had in mind.

‎Should I wait?

‎Would you have asked?

‎I hope you come clear the air.

‎

‎Lonely chair, silent witness of our past,

‎empty void, what I believed could have last.

‎Silent puffs, I’ve held on too long,

‎Yet it feels like the air still remembers our song.

‎

‎Lonely me, plain chair

‎Two ghosts breathing same air.

‎Lonely me, wooden chair,

‎Staring out at the void that is us.

‎Lonely me, empty chair,

‎Tied to a past that lingers.

‎Lonely me, lonely chair.
