Nobody gives you a handbook when you enter university. You just arrive, attend a few lectures, meet some people, and slowly discover that there are things nobody officially teaches you.
For instance, exam period comes with its own kind of madness. You’re supposed to be reading, revising, and preparing for your papers. But somehow, even in the middle of all that pressure, students still find ways to tease one another.
Imagine going for an overnight reading session because you have an exam coming up, only for someone to call you ‘Shana’.
Ah-ah! Am I not supposed to be reading? Is it not exam period? Why are you calling me a ‘shana’ when I’m still struggling to finish my notes?
Then there’s the group assignment situation. Five people can be assigned one task, but somehow, the work finds its way into the hands of two people while the others contribute encouraging messages to the WhatsApp group.
And let’s not forget the student who claims not to have read anything but somehow manages to answer almost every question the lecturer asks.
University life is full of these little experiences. Some are frustrating, some are funny, and others only become amusing when you look back at them.
Beyond lectures, tests, and assignments, you’re also learning how to deal with different personalities, navigate unfamiliar situations, and understand the unwritten rules of living among people who are all trying to figure things out.
Nobody teaches you these things in a lecture hall. Somehow, you just learn along the way.
And sometimes, the most memorable parts of university life have nothing to do with what you were taught in class.
