Segmental and suprasegmental dissimilarities between English
and our native languages are the specific factors. For the
segmental aspect, there are many sounds in English that we
aren’t familiar with in our native language. For the
suprasegmental level, our native languages are tonal, while
English is stress-timed, making stress a stressful topic
to master.

of English phonology so that these divergences between English
and our native language will stop being a communicative issue.

Who Are the Authors?

SAMUEL CHRISTOPHER ORAKWE

He is a B.A (Ed) English holder from Obafemi Awolowo University.
For more than seven years, he has been teaching Phonology,
Literature and other Linguistics courses to both pre-university
and university students. His immense love for English education,
especially phonology, is the inspiration behind this book.

TOSIN ADESOKAN

He is an MA degree candidate at the Department of English,
American University of Beirut, and he centres his interests
around Corpus Linguistics, Phonology, Digital Humanities,
and English Grammar. Aside from being an award-winning writer
and National Newspaper Columnist, Tosin is also a passionate
educator who has been teaching English and Literature to
pre-university students and undergraduates.
